Frequently Asked Questions regarding our Group Training Classes
How are your Group Training Classes different from classes at other fitness clubs ?
Our group classes at Millcroft Fitness, Weight Management & Wellness are very different from many "aerobic" style classes you will find at other larger clubs. Our classes are all taught by certified personal trainers, certified group fitness instructors, certified yoga/pilates instructors and/or certified indoor cycling instructors who are all very well trained in proper movement mechanics and program design to ensure you get results quickly and safely. Also, our class size is smaller than most fitness clubs so our trainers can monitor technique better. You will also find that our group training sessions are more focused on function, performance and results versus fancy footwork. They are all results oriented.
What happens if I am running late for a group class or have to leave early ?
As a courtesy to your fellow participants and in your best interest, we ask you to show up on time and stay until the completion of the session so that you can benefit from a proper warm up and cool down. Please be sure to review the schedule carefully as our group training classes usually vary in length from 45 minutes to one full hour. For avid spinners, we do often offer indoor cycling classes up to 90 minutes in length.
What do I do on my first visit to a group training class ?
Welcome to your first class ! Please do arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of your first class so you have time to fill out a quick Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire and Informed Consent. Your trainer/instructor will take great care of you once in the studio.
Should I tell the instuctor that I am pregnant or have occasional pain when I exercise ?
Please do communicate with your trainer/instructor if you are a beginner, pregnant, have high blood pressure, or any other medical condition, injury or pain that may affect you in class. The instructor will then guide you appropriately and give you modifications when necessary.
Can I use the cardio equipment and indoor cycling bikes before or after my personal training session ?
Yes, that is what our cardio equipment is for. Your trainer will instruct you with how long and how hard they would like you to exercise either before or after your private training session.
Can I use the cardio equipment prior to or after a group training session ?
Personal training clients do have priority with our cardio equipment, however, if a piece of equipment is available and there is not a group class going on, feel free to use prior or after your group class.. Please do ask one of our trainers to show you how the equipment is used safely and effectively.
Never tried an Indoor Cycling class before ?
No problem. You may attend any of our Indoor Cycling classes but please do arrive a few minutes before class and do let your instructor know this is your first class. The instructor will show you how to properly set up your bike for proper fit and will show you the basic positions that you will see in class. A few safety tips will be shown and then you are ready for class. You will ride at your own pace and therefore all levels of fitness and experience can be accomodated in every class !
Should I bring my own yoga/pilates mat to group sessions ?
Bringing your own yoga mat is encouraged for hygienic reasons, however, we do have plenty and you are more than welcome to borrow one of ours.
Are showers available after a workout ?
Absolutely. We have two beautiful washrooms complete with showers and towels available for your use.
Should I bring a towel for my workout ?
We provide towels for all indoor cycling classes and personal training sessions.
Do you recommend signing up in advance for group training classes ?
We encourage you to book your Group Training Classes into your own schedule like you do any other type of appointment and sign up in advance to ensure your space in class. Depending on which class you choose, there will only be 8-15 spots available as we specialize in and only offer small group classes. Please remember that consistency is the key to results and to achieving your personal best ! Drops ins will be permitted if space permits. If you are signed up in advance, we will hold your spot in class for 5 minutes after the class was scheduled to begin. If the class is full and someone is waiting, your spot will be given away should you not arrive within 5 minutes of class start.
What is your policy for cancelling my spot in a group training class ?
We do reserve a spot especially for you when you have signed up in advance. You will not be charged for your class if you cancel prior to 12 hours before the class is scheduled to begin. This gives us time to notify others who may wish to take your spot.
